To Use or Not to Use? The Real Benefits of the Best Eye Creams

Advantages of Quality Eye Creams

“If you don’t stop making that face, it’ll stick that way.”

How many of your mothers said that to you? Mine certainly did. Little did I know how real that was, but not in the way that I had imagined when I was a kid. Laugh lines? Crows feet? Mom didn’t warn me about that.

The skin around our eyes is thinner and more fragile than on the rest of our face so it tends to wear thin and show lines before the other parts of our faces do.

A real smile touches your eyes and those crease lines are beautiful to see when you have a big, toothy grin on your face but crows feet provide evidence for more than just how much laughter has touched our lives, they show how long we’ve been laughing for.

Our eyes are also one of our main sensory muscles and we put a lot strain on them while we focus hard on our work, especially those of us that sit at a computer, and although this is a different kind of wear than a smile, these stressors leave well-deserved but unwanted fine lines too.

That is why we think it’s important to use a natural eye cream that can help hydrate the skin under your eyes, helping those unwanted fine lines to fade.

What They Do and When to Use One

Let’s be honest, we live in a visual culture and when we’re awake our eyes are constantly engaged. To work with the signs of aging around the eye area means working on as many different attributes as we can on a consistent basis.

A good eye cream helps to prevent the signs of aging around the eyes while also reducing the appearance of any fine lines and wrinkles that are already cropping up. An eye cream worth its weight will cover all these key benefits:

  • Moisturize. There aren’t very many oil glands in the area around the eyes so as we age, this is one of the first areas that gets noticeably drier. We want to keep this area nice and smooth so that those big smiles touch our eyes but smooth right back out again.
  • Hydrate. Thinning skin around our eyes is a noticeable sign of aging. To plump it up we want to hydrate the skin, adding water to the skin gives it the full, dewy look we’re going for when we use an eye cream.
  • Brighten. We all search for that youthful glow and while you can see that little spark in the eyes of every aged person, brightening up the whole eye area offers the appearance of agelessness.
Strengthen. The older we get the more fragile the skin around our eyes becomes, a good eye cream has protective ingredients that help to fortify the skin from further signs of aging.
  • Firm and tighten. Gravity has its effects on all of us, but around the eyes is one of the first areas that we notice the sagging that comes with age. Though a good eye cream won’t stop the aging process, it can certainly firm up the area to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Antioxidant. This one might not be as obvious because antioxidants don’t have immediate effects on our skin but they help to keep the years off by fighting the effects of environmental stressors, which add to the appearance of aging.

Choosing the Right One

Taking the Eye Cream plunge can be overwhelming because there are so many options out there. We’re big on ingredients, so always suggest that you start by reading the ingredient label. If it has parabens, alcohol, or other ingredients that could be irritating to the skin, we would advise you not to put it around your eyes.

Since the skin around our eyes is thinner than the rest of our bodies, it’s often more sensitive. A good eye cream has a lighter fragrance, a thicker texture, and more soothing ingredients than your typical moisturizer. You want to work with a product that is ultra hydrating and deeply moisturizing without having to use so much that your eye area is glistening with product all day—that means working with really high-quality ingredients.

We formulated our Anti-Aging Eye Cream with these guidelines in mind. We infuse it with soothing herbs like chamomile and calendula to help calm the area around the eyes. The custom serum blend has ingredients like aloe and squalene to hydrate and act as a humectant while our butter blend with coconut oil and mango seed butter mixed with shea oil is superbly moisturizing. We took it to the next level of perfection by adding brightening herbs like licorice root, eyebright, and green tea along with an additional herbal infused oil blend that is off the chart in antioxidant content. Our Anti-Aging Eye Cream has no shortage of amazing benefits, so to read more about the ingredients and why we chose them, check out this article.

Knowing how much to use can be tricky too. Every eye and eye cream is a bit different so for our Anti-Aging Eye Cream we would say a pea size is enough for both eyes. Regardless of your eye cream, you don’t want to use too much because the skin around the eye is so thin that it can soak right through and be uncomfortable.

When Using One May Not Be the Only Solution

Our eyes are really unique parts of our bodies because they’re an exposed muscle, making them both internal and external. In particular, they’re pretty connected to our kidneys and our adrenals—think tears, salts, stress and the optical nerve’s interconnection with the central nervous system—so sometimes if you’re experiencing an internal issue, especially involving kidney or adrenal function, your eyes can be affected and an eye cream may not be the answer to your problems.

If you’re finding that the skin around your eyes is puffy, the most likely cause is something like allergies, sinus, eye strain, or a sign of water imbalance in the body. While an eye cream can be temporarily soothing to puffy eyes, you’ll want to chat with a practitioner or try something like a ghee eye bath.

Dark circles that go deeper than the skin tone you’re working with is a sign of increased blood stagnation in that area. It can be from lack of sleep, allergies, or a sign of a blood deficiency. An eye cream can help to strengthen and firm the skin around the eyes to help the appearance of the dark circles, but it’s not going to solve any internal issue.

Our eyes are one of our most-used muscles and they can tell a lot about a person’s health, age, and happiness. When we’re at our best selves, our eyes light up and keeping a consistent eye cream routine can be just the ticket for giving those bright, beautiful eyes an age-defying place to live.
