Ingredient Spotlight: Baobab, Marula, Mongongo, and Moringa

At Annmarie Skin Care, we’re proud to put people and the planet before profit. All of our products are made with organic, natural, or sustainable ingredients.

Today, we want to highlight the company and the farming communities behind four incredible natural oils: baobab, marula, mongongo, and moringa.

We’re proud of these ingredients and even prouder of this partnership, which allows us to source high-quality botanical ingredients from Southern Africa ethically and sustainably, without harming the local population or ecosystem. In fact, over 1,000 Botswana citizens—including farmers and coordinators—are currently employed in this network across 25 villages, several of which are certified organic.

A closer look at our sourcing and an upcoming formula.

Established in 2008 with the motto to Do More Good, our sourcing partner upholds the highest industry standards as they create jobs for the rural poor in Southern Africa. They source indigenous, natural, and botanical ingredients, all while partnering with regional scientists and horticulturists.

They’ve also built a vast network with zero-waste ambitions, from their facilities (where they find more ways to use by-products) to their local harvesters, and have been able to increase production capacity as a result. Recently, they have expanded into the harvesting of fresh fruit to provide pulp for the food industry.

Their co-founder, a professor of political science, understands the importance of lifting up local farming communities while fulfilling a genuine need in the marketplace.

“The first objective must be identifying products that are relevant to the personal care market,” she explains. “By looking at social and economic development from a macro, market level, we work to create sustainable gains. As a political scientist, I know that a reliable income, particularly for women, alleviates so many other fundamental problems.”

We partnered with this admirable company for a variety of ingredients in our new, upcoming product.

Ingredient spotlight: Oils of baobab, marula, mongongo, and moringa.

Let’s focus on four pure, incredible seed oils that we have used in this product, which will join our Wild Alchemy Collection.

Baobab oil – Shown to brighten, soften, and clarify the look of skin, our baobab oil was sourced from Zimbabwe and Malawi, where the trees (often referred to as the “tree of life)” are native. They’re packed with skin-loving omegas and vitamins B and C.

Marula oil – Sourced from regions like Botswana and Namibia, our partner is a member of The Marula Group, to ensure complete use of the fruit, minimizing carbon footprint and waste. It’s an incredible fortifier for skin, rich with antioxidants and nutrients.

Mongongo oil – Sourced from regions like Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, mongongo oil is highly-moisturizing and bursting with beneficial compounds—including linoleic acid and magnesium—for glowing skin.

Moringa oil – This all-natural oil, like the others in this lineup, has improved the look of skin for centuries. It can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and soothe the skin. Ours is proudly sourced from regions like Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Guess and win our new, upcoming formula.

Although we haven’t announced the full formula just yet (it’s a surprise!), you can take a guess on our Instagram or Facebook and we will select a few random winners to receive a free bottle.

As for a few more clues? Anchored by organic golden jojoba oil and infused with antioxidant-rich butterfly pea flowers, this mystery elixir nourishes, softens, and rejuvenates. It features a synergistic blend of luxe, ultra-potent oils like blue tansy, copaiba balsam, and andiroba, among many others.
